How many times do you have ideas (great ideas of course) that you would like to implement (but never do) ? How many times do you think, ” this idea could really be useful, could solve a problem” but right before to implement it, you just do not know how and where to start, how to do the first step ?

It is interesting to see that very often, when sharing with groups and team of professionals during training sessions on creativity and innovation, it is not the ideas that are missing. Actually there are even many methods now that are useful to stimulate creativity and to gather ideas.

But what is more frequently missing is the starting point to implement these ideas. The moment where you will go from the thinking process to the first test. And precisely, at which moment do we know by facts that someone learn the most…by practicing and testing.

So how is it possible to cross that frontier between the idea and the first trial ? How is it possible to “dare” ?

Even if there is probably no magic solution, below are 5 ways that can be recognized as facilitating the moment in which you can dare to implement one of your idea:

1- Start in a secure environment, but don’t wait the perfect place

By secure environment we mean an environment that foster the possibility to try new ideas and potentially to succeed or to fail and try again. This secure environment is probably one the most important element before to start any new initiative. Nevertheless, make sure you do not overthink the fact that your environment is or not secure. In the end you are going to dare to implement something new, the risk is inherent to the fact that it is new, and the most important is for you to have an environment that allow this test and learn process.

2- Test fast, fail fast, learn fast

Together with the first point, the possibility tp try, fail, learn and try again is absolutely key to start any new initiative. This is often presented as the fail-fast method and to be honest, this is key to make the first move to implement an idea, whether you want to start a website, a business or just a new way of working. Iteration is fundamental in the learning process and the fail-fast method is probably the best way to begin.

3- Don’t be afraid to start with baby steps

Together with the fast-fail method, don’t be afraid to start with what could be considered as very first actions. For example, if you want to create your own website, don’t think that the first thing you will do will be to buy your domain name. It may just be to regroup 10 ideas of key topics for your site and then to reconsider your project with these 10 ideas.

4- Ask for advice to make the first step

One important point to remember is that you can actually access many resources and find a lot of contacts on professional social networks. If needed, do not hesitate to ask for some advice, it can be a good way to learn more and at the same time to reflect on what you want to achieve.

5- Move out of your comfort zone…but don’t lose your self

Last but not least…to dare and to start, you will probably need to question your comfort zone, and to be able to manage the doubts that you may have. This is important and I am fairly confident that if you ask entrepreneurs about it, they will confirm that at some point, to start something new, and even just to implement a new idea, you will need to move out of your comfort zone. That being said, it is also important to not go to far as in this case, it could mean that the idea you want to implement is not yet adapted.

In all cases, I hope these 5 simple steps will help you to start on a good track and as said at the beginning: there are no magic solution, but there are certainly many ways to begin to implement a new ideas, you just need to dare !
